Handling the Sword Attack with a Karate Technique from Pinan Five

Mind you, a sword attack is not likely these days, but if you know the karate technique from Pinan Five then you can adapt pretty easily for other types of attacks. After all, a club is a short sword with no edge, a knife is a really short sword, and so on.
Pinan Five, also called Heian Five, has a move in it, about halfway through, where you raise your crossed wrists upward. This is the self defense technique we are looking at.
When doing this technique you must rush forward and make sure you apply it to the attacker’s wrists. Pretty silly to block a raw sword blade with your bare wrists.
You catch the attackers arm and push upward on the elbow and pull down the wrist. Then will translate into an armbar or elbow roll, and he will be pretty much at your mercy.
This is a real meat and potatoes technique, works for all sorts of stuff. After a while you will find yourself moving in and just grabbing and twisting the attacker’s arm. This is good. But, if you ever have trouble, you should have practiced the individual pieces, as prescribed by the Karate Form Pinan Five. Knowing the pieces will allow you to master the whole of the technique.
Check out this video, in which I teach this technique.

If you want to know more about the Karate techniques from Pinan Five, more than the sword attack I have just outlined, then drop by Learn Karate Online and check out the Kang Duk Won. This is a download and you could be seeing all the old, tried and true methods for self protection in less than a minute.

What is Real Karate?

So many systems, which one is right? Which one is the Real Karate?
Well, let’s see. The Americans created their versions from Japan, for the most part.
The Japanese created their versions from the Okinawans, for the most part.
The Okinawans created their versions from the Chinese, for the most part.
Hmmm. Could their be no True Karate?
Well, there is, but it is not what you think. See, if you render Karate into simple moves based in physics, then you end up with MAtrix Karate, and from that one could extrapolate all versions.
That’s right, Matrix Karate isn’t a version. It is the scienctific breakdown of all Karate systems, and the result is something slick and sweet and easy to learn.
Don’t believe me?
First, check out the video right below. It shows me dissecting Pinan Five, maning sense out of a form that people say you have study for years to understand.
Next, head over to my site and take a free lesson. See if what I say is simple and easy to do…and makes sense. If it does, then you know you’re in the right place. The name of the site is Learn Karate Online, and it is the home of Real Karate.

Learn How to Do Karate Freestyle the Right Way!

When I was learning how to do Karate Freestyle the instructor would tell us harder, faster. No matter how hard I trained, how ever, the guys who had studied longer than me could still beat me. Check out the video, then I’ll tell you how I turned the tables.

Then, along about black belt time, this guy was promoted in front of me. We had been training the same length of time, but he was promoted before me, and suddenly he could beat me in freestyle.
Wait a minute! I was better than him, and until he got promoted, I could beat him!
I quickly realized that his confidence had gone up, and that this was a secret to freestyle that nobody knew.
So I went back to trouncing him.
And, now that I had figured it out, I jacked my confidence and started trashing a lot of other people.
Those guys who had studied longer than me? They were now my meat.
Now, you still need some rudimentary training, but I use methods that jack up confidence, and my students learn to freestyle in an hour or two.
Serious.
Got proof on the Black Belt Course. I filmed myself taking somebody to Black Belt, and in the over twenty hours of filming we did freestyle for about an hour, and you can see that at the end of his instruction he doesn’t blink or hesitate, he just confidently moves in and fights without fear.
It’s the training method I use, and nobody else uses it. Heck, nobody knows it, and it is almost diametrically opposed to the methods currently used.
Anyway, if you’re interested in learning how to do Freestyle the right way, or you just want to find out a bit more about the training methods I use, pop over to LearnKarateOnline(dot)net. Heck, take a free lesson while you’re there.

Establishing the Perfect Karate Body!

Use Your Perfect Body to Find Enlightenment!

Here is what Leo DaVinci said (from his notebooks) about the perfect shape. This would be the ‘Vitruvian Man.’ In looking over these figures I find myself less than perfect, and some things can’t be corrected. At any rate, it does some wonderful food for thought as to what type of karate you should study, what your ideal shape is for the martial arts, and so on.

‘The length of a man’s outspread arms is equal to his height.
From the roots of his hair to the bottom of his chin is the tenth of a man’s height; from the bottom of the chin to the top of the head is one eighth of his height; from the top of the breast to the roots of the hair will be the seventh part of the whole man. From the nipples to the top of the head will be the fourth part of man. The greatest width of the shoulders contains in itself the fourth part of man. From the elbow to the tip of the hand will be the fifth part of a man; and from the elbow to the angle of the armpit will be the eighth part of man. The whole hand will be the tenth part of the man. The distance from the bottom of the chin to the nose and from the roots of the hair to the eyebrows is, in each case the same, and like the ear, a third of the face.’

This descirption does give me some problems. the main one is that I’m balding, so I either need to grow my body, or shrink my head. Hmmm.

Anyway, here is a further breakdown:
You should be
seven heads high
three heads shoulder to shoulder
four heads hips to toes
one head from tips of fingers to wrist
one head top to bottom of buttocks
two heads tips of fingers to elbow.

So, get out the measuring stick, measure your head, and find out if you are in perfect shape. Don’t be worried if you aren’t exactly in shape, Leo is said to have altered his measurements to suit his sculptures.
If you really want a perfect body, lean in muscle and able to move like lightening, you might want to check out Yogata (The Yoga Kata), it is Yoga designed by a martial artist for Martial Artists. Pick up a free book on the home page of the site.

How To Make Perfect Martial Arts Stances

Analyze Everything...Leave Nothing to Chance!

First thing you’ll probably learn, when you enter into a Martial Arts training hall, is how to make good martial arts stances. This is because stances create the foundations for the fighting disciplines. How you stand has to do with how you lock the body to the ground, and make it into a class AAA machine.

Systems that don’t have stances will not generate the massive amounts of power that the classical martial arts develop. I am talking about all the systems of Karate, including Shotokan, Goju Ryu, Uechi Ryu, shito ryu and so on. The odd thing is that systems that don’t have stances could introduce stances into their systems easily, and thus increase their power tremendously.

To begin, the first stance is the natural stance, in which you simply stand with your feet shoulder width apart and feet angled to the front. Since this is natural, and takes no real instructions, we won’t go into it. Simply, this type of stance doesn’t generate power.

To build an Hourglass Stance, which does generate energy, start with your feet together. Keep the toes touching and swing the heels out, then keep the heels where they are and swing the toes out, then keep the toes fixed in place and swing the heels out again. Lower the stance slightly, push the knees together (stand pigeon toed) and breath to the tan tien (the one point located just below the navel).

To create a back stance, from the hour glass stance simply swing one toe all the way out and settle your weight on the other leg. You might have to move the foot turned out slightly to the side, as you want to be able to move without having to go around your own hips. This is an extremely useful stance for getting ready to fight, as you can crouch and launch with no discernible movement.

Next we will build a horse stance, Mabu in the Chinese martial disciplines, and Kiba Dachi in the Japanese systems. From a back stance simply keep the toes of the front foot where they are and move the heel out, and let the weight settle evenly down the legs. This is a high horse stance, and if you spread the legs further to the side and get lower you can create more energy.

Finally, to make a front stance, simply turn the toes of one of the feet in the horse stance outwards and sink your weight on that foot. You may want to move the front foot more to the side so that the feet are on shoulder wide parallel tracks. This is a great stance when you want to move forward in an attacking mode.

There are many other stances you can make, and it is simple to figure out a foot or leg motion to do these. These would include such stances as the crane stance (lift one leg), the kneeling stance, the cross kneeling stance (dragon), and so on. The main thing to remember is that you should be able to position yourself so that you can make the transition through the karate stances while conserving, and even creating, more and more power.

Karate, Kung Fu and How to Handle Zombies!

Using Karate and Kung Fu to handle Zombies, sounds like I’m getting ready to rib you, doesn’t it? Well, glad to disappoint, but there’s some s traight goods coming at you. I’m going to tell you about one of the best books on tactics for handling large crowds of people, call ’em zombies if you wish. Before I do so, check out the video, I’m using all sorts of different arts to handle a couple of guys. I’m controlling the distance, locking and block and…taking names. Watch, and then I’ll tell you about a book that might be better than the Book of Five Rings, or The Art of War.

The Book is called The Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks. It is written tongue in cheek, many would say over the top, but it is the best and most concise overview of battle tactics I have seen. Look let me give you a scenario.
Food shortages are happening all over the world, some people say they will come to a city you live in. When that happens a couple of weeks and people will be out of food. At that point they will start wandering the streets, breaking into houses, looking desperately for a crumb.
Isn’t that how a so called ‘zombie’ works? Wanders the street looking for brains? Brains being a code word for people who have had the smarts to store up and hoard food.
So, when the starved come calling, do you know how to fortify your house so it can withstand attack? Do you know the tactics for not letting the zombies know when you are cooking? Do you know how to set the sombies up when you want to wipe out a bunch of them?
Now, this book goes everywhere, for every eventuallity, and it is better than any military manual I have ever read for straight forward urban survival.
I know it may be mean (politically incorrect?) to call hungry people zombies, let alone treat them like an enemy, but when the mob is at your door, you’ll be glad you read this book.
And, that said, there is one mistake that nearly all people who have read this book make…they don’t study the martial arts. They are reading it for a hoot, they are stuck in fantasy land and don’t know the way out.
If you really want to survive food shortages, riots, even attacks by the police (you think they won’t be hungry?) then this is the book for you.
This book, and karate or kung fu, or some other martial art, will help you handle any zombies. So get the book, and head on over to Learn Karate Online and get some absolutely FREE Karate Training. A zombie attack might be right around the calender, and Karate is the art of choice for laying waste to hordes of the undead!!

Free Karate Lessons Are A Fantastic Way To Learn Martial Arts!

My official beginning in the study of the martial arts was back in the late sixties. I walked into an Ed Parker Chinese Kenpo Dojo, signed a contract, and began to learn Martial Arts. The truth, however, is that I had been getting free Karate Lessons for a long time before I walked into that school. Check out the video, then I’ll tell you about it.

They weren’t much, as far as martial arts lessons went, but they did the trick. They kept my attention, and they kept me happy. After all, they were the best type of physical and mental conditioning, they were a good way to learn I could handle the bullies, and they were fun.

The first thing that caught my interest was knuckle conditioning. We used to knock our knuckles on walls and fences and boxes and anything that got in our way. That resulted in a lifelong interest in good conditioning, different types of punches, and a desire to have the hardest punch I could have.

The second thing I learned was simple arm bars. This was good, as simple things always work the best. To this day I take the most complex of fighting techniques and look for the simplest method of making them work.

The third thing I gleaned had to do with learning how the different parts of the body worked. I examined feet, hands, arms, legs, how the joints worked, the back, everything I could. I even read medical books trying to understand how the body worked.

Fourth, I engaged in a rudimentary sort of grappling. This was good because I took away from that experience the lesson that grappling wasn’t handy for fighting. You grapple, and you are tied up, and somebody else runs up and kicks the back of your head, and there might be weapons involved, and…no thanks.

The main thing I discovered from reading books, working with friends, and just having fun pretending we were big and tough, was that sweat worked. The hours we spent lifting iron, running, wrestling, and trying those techniques from out of old Bruce Tegner books and the like…they were golden hours. It was a youth that built strength, character, and the desire to go forward.

The point I am making in this article is that the martial arts aren’t for everybody. So look around on the web, Google Free Karate lessons, (I always recommend Karate as a great art to start your martial arts with) or some other like term, and see what comes up. Do a few tricks, see if they work on friends, and find out if you have the character and kind of mind to be a student of Karate.

Joey Gives the Karate Kick to Two Bullies!

A Powerful Karate Kick Can Save Your Life!

Joey was coming home late. The reason he was late was because he had stayed extra to help his karate teacher clean the dojo. Mops and brooms, wiping windows, even cleaning the bathrooms…it was small price to pay for his karate lessons.
He had just turned on to his street when he caught sight of Buck and Sammy up ahead. Joey groaned inside. They were bullies, and they liked to pick on him. Of course, that was before they got picked up for petty theft and went to juvenile hall for a few months. And, that was before Joey started his Karate training.
“Hey! Lookie lookie! It’s our old pal!” Buck was always the first to talk, the one to start the bullying. He tried to get a reaction, and then his larger friend would move in with the taunts and pushes.
“Hi guys,” Joey responded. “Glad you’re out and about.” He was determined to try to be polite and friendly. It was something his instructor always told him. Fists end a fight, but manner don’t let the fight happen.
“Ooh, he’s glad we’re around again. Ain’t that neat, Sammy?”
“That’s neat,” grinned Sammy.
Joey tried to move past, but Buck moved in with him and put an arm around his shoulder.
Sammy moved in behind, and Joey knew what the large wannabe gangster was going to try.
A simple trip was his favorite fight starter. He would kick at Joey’s foot, try to get him tangled, and when he stumbled, Buck would be all over him.
Knowing what was going to happen was half the game. Training was the other half. Joey knew what was going to happen, and his instructor had drilled him on sneak attacks.
As Sammy kicked at his foot Joey lean forward and executed a picture perfect rear kick. It caught the oaf in the belly, and Sammy was shoved back.
Buck had started to move, he was trying to get a headlock.
Joey simply knelt, Buck was moved forward, and Joey, now slightly behind the thug, brought his ridge hand up between the loud mouthed bully’s legs.
Buck opened his mouth, dropped to his knees, and groaned. Then he started to upchuck. Streams of green fluid, fast food and a bit of beer, spewed forth onto the sidewalk.
Joey stood up and turned. Sammy, the tougher of the two was up and moving towards him.
“I don’t want any trouble,” said Joey, backing away.
Sammy muttered a dirty word, then threw a haymaker.
Joey knew about haymakers. They were the tool of the uninformed, easy to see a mile away.
Joey leaned back and the punch whistled past, then the youngster simply stepped forward and launched a perfect Karate Snap Kick to the groin.
Sammy was the tougher of the two thugs alright. He didn’t fall down. But he did follow the example of his friend…he began to hurl the contents of his stomach. And he hurled them all over the back of Buck’s head!
“Sorry, guys,” Joey backed away from the puke splattered duo. “I really am glad you’re out, and I really don’t want to have any trouble with you.
From that day on, Joey never did have any trouble.

Ninja Jump Spin Kick as Solution to Straight Karate Punch

Within the Karate Punch is Great Spirit

The attack is a straight Karate Punch, from the ready position, one foot away. The defense is a Ninja jump into the air with a complete 360 spin with a heel kick on the end of it.
Hello?
Is anybody home?
I actually saw this self defense technique offered in a basic ninjitsu course. Guy was serious, too. And, he actually made it work.
Of course, he had trained it specifically for ten years, and he was working with his own man.
But, hey…why wouldn’t it work for a newbie with no athletic experience? Eh?
So, to explain the problems here, in the real world a straight karate punch, driven from the ready position, and not back from the hip, only has a foot to go before it impacts.
And the ninja student is expected to raise his body three feet in the air, spin it in a complete circle, and drive a heel against the side of the attacker’s head.
Let’s see, move one foot, one a straight line, with everything perfectly in line and ready to go, or do a circus trick with an advanced kick on the end.
The correct thing to do would be to move back with the hands up in the ready position. Even better if you put the palms out like you want no fight.
Then, even if he starts close, you are moving your body in the same direction as the punch, thus going with the punch, thus robbing the punch of impact.
And, having the hands up you might be able to move an arm in the way, deflect the punch, or at least mush it up so you don’t take the full force.
And, finally, that leaves you in a position to counter attack.
Look, I’m not saying ninjitsu is bad, I have the utmost respect for that fine art. But I do have a problem with martial arts instructors who don’t look at the realities of what they are teaching, or, worse, are just teaching the razzle dazzle so they can make some money.
It’s great to make money, but you better offer the real goods, and the martial arts aren’t about leaching bucks out of newbies with a sincere desire to learn, they are about delivering the goods. Remember that when somebody sets up to throw a karate punch to your person, and stay away from Ninja Jump Spin Kick Solutions. If you want more good martial arts, head on over to Learn Karate Online. The Karate Black Belt…What You Have to do to Get There!

A lot of people try, and a lot of people fail. To be precise, out of a thousand people that start the journey to a Karate Black Belt, only 1 or 2 will make it. Check out the video, and then I’ll tell you how to be sure that you make it!

So, how do you make sure you are going to make it?
First, pick a good school. Not a make money trophies in the windows school, but a long time hole in the wall that has a record of good, solid martial arts, and the students to prove it.
Second, dedicate yourself. Put a picture of Bruce Lee (or some other martial artist that you admire) on your front door, and bow to it every time you go out. Make it a reminder that you will make every single class. And, if ever you feel like not heading out to the dojo, pick yourself up by the scruff of the neck, and GO!
Now, that is really all there is to it. Dedicated school, dedicated student, and the martial arts will seep into your soul like chicken soup into the belly of an invalid.
Of course, there are a few more things you can do.
One, read everything you can, and not just on Karate. Read about every martial art, think about how they will fit together. Bring the techniques to your school and ask others about them. You will get an education far beyond your wildest dreams. It’s creative thought, man, and that is what an art is about.
Two, haunt the internet. Don’t buy the bushwah, don’t get involved in the internet hype, just learn how to tell when a fellow is serious, and when he is just an internet marketer trying to grab your bucks. The more you look at, the more educated you become, the easier this will be. Once you know the difference, examine what other legitimate artists are doing. Learn their moves, see how you can use those moves in your own art.
Finally, work out, work out, work out. Be at school early, and stay late. Help beginners, and you will find the advanced students will help you. That’s just the way the universe works in a real karate school.
Now, if you do what I have told you here, you will make it. The only thing you have to understand is that rewards go to the sincere, the dedicated, the honest and hard working. All others quit and go to the movies and think about how great it would be to be a karate black belt. They will wonder about what you know. Now go for it, and may all the skill on earth be yours.
