Learn How to Do Karate Freestyle the Right Way!

When I was learning how to do Karate Freestyle the instructor would tell us harder, faster. No matter how hard I trained, how ever, the guys who had studied longer than me could still beat me. Check out the video, then I’ll tell you how I turned the tables.

Then, along about black belt time, this guy was promoted in front of me. We had been training the same length of time, but he was promoted before me, and suddenly he could beat me in freestyle.
Wait a minute! I was better than him, and until he got promoted, I could beat him!
I quickly realized that his confidence had gone up, and that this was a secret to freestyle that nobody knew.
So I went back to trouncing him.
And, now that I had figured it out, I jacked my confidence and started trashing a lot of other people.
Those guys who had studied longer than me? They were now my meat.
Now, you still need some rudimentary training, but I use methods that jack up confidence, and my students learn to freestyle in an hour or two.
Serious.
Got proof on the Black Belt Course. I filmed myself taking somebody to Black Belt, and in the over twenty hours of filming we did freestyle for about an hour, and you can see that at the end of his instruction he doesn’t blink or hesitate, he just confidently moves in and fights without fear.
It’s the training method I use, and nobody else uses it. Heck, nobody knows it, and it is almost diametrically opposed to the methods currently used.
Anyway, if you’re interested in learning how to do Freestyle the right way, or you just want to find out a bit more about the training methods I use, pop over to LearnKarateOnline(dot)net. Heck, take a free lesson while you’re there.

Free Karate Lesson Online Nearly Done!

Been working hard on this Free Karate Lesson Online. Check out the video, it’s a good example of how I take things apart so you really can understand them, and then I’ll tell you about the free Karate…

I wanted to cover stances, blocks, footwork, and get the student to actually do a small form. The trick is to keep it simple, and make sure the steps are quick and easy.
After all, people want to do the bam and slam of UFC type sports, and I want to convince them that Karate, as an art, has more to offer.
You don’t want to wrestle on the street.
You want to maximize your blocks and strikes.
You want to build some of that famous knock out power that Karate power is famous for.
On this last, you can’t develop this while wearing gloves. Gloves stop the transmittal of energy, and thereby the hands are demoted to mere bludgeons.
Anyay, check out the free lesson at my site, Learn Karate Online. And it really is free. I don’t even ask for your address. I’m figuring that the benefits of the lesson will be so obvious that people will want to sign up for the newsletter, or just order right on the spot. That’s Learn Karate Online.

Karate Kata: The Translation from Pinan to Heian

What does a Karate Kata mean? It’s a dance, it’s a book of techniques, it’s a method for controlling and teaching large numbers of people without the need for data. It’s zen, it’s one thing at a time, it’s a belt arrangement system.
It’s a recent invention that dates back two thousand years…and it shows you exactly and precisely and where to place them clodhoppers you call feets. It’s data arranged out of order in a set sequence. Whatever they are, do them long enough and you will know Karate.
Well, maybe. Maybe not. After all if Gichin Funakoshi is to be believed, Karate is changing and changing…here is his direct quote.
“Hoping to see Karate included in the universal physical education taught in our public schools, I set about revising the kata so as to make them as simple as possible. Times change, the world changes, and obviously the martial arts must change too. The Karate that high school students practice today is not the same Karate that was practiced even as recently as ten years ago [this book was written in 1956], and it is a long way indeed from the Karate I learned when I was a child in Okinawa.”
The classical Kata attributed to Gichin Funakoshi are called Heian. This writer learned, from a lineage other than the Japanese, Karate forms called Pinan. And there were distinct and stark differences between the two.
The Heian are violent, forward stancing, explosive, in your face, one punch one kill. The Pinan have focus in the fist, work out of the more defensive back stance, modify the explosion exactly to the work being performed, are subtle and polite, and believe in getting along with your fellow man.
Of course, my bias holds, the Pinans are better. They were created before the young turks of the Japanese college system altered them for tournaments and power and fighting and power and glory and power and…well, power. The Pinans were created before lust was in vogue.
Of course, that said, this writer’s bias taken into account, one can modify the forms back to the way they were. All one has to do is adjust the angles and modify the mind. Ahh, modify the mind…perhaps it is not possible…but one can hope.

Car Crash Karate…and I Thought I was Studying the True MArtial Art!

I thought I was studying Karate, but I really wasn’t. I was just breaking my body down, one punch at a time, and getting little benefit. Check out the video, then I’ll tell you how I broke through to real Karate.

I read stories of the old masters, and I wondered why I was totally flattened out, why I was in a plateau that never ended.
Eventually, I started getting headaches with every punch I threw. I’d throw a gentle punch so I could work out, but if I ever threw a hard punch…whamo! Instant migraine.
Don’t get me wrong, I was learning, learning all sorts of stuff, but I wasn’t making the big break through that the masters of legends made.
Finally, having had enough of the headache punches, I thought of my instructor. He had made the breakthrough, yet he wasn’t a huge blast of power, he was gnelte, and polite, and modest, and humble, and…hmmm.
So I thought about Karate, and something my instructor said…A tight fist is a heavy fist.
And the light went on.
I had been striking with all my power, tensing my whole body, exploding massive amounts of energy. He was like a noodle, flicking little jolts that incapacitated.
So I started putting my whole body in position, but tightening only the fist. Whole billboards of lights went on.
By tensing the whole body it was like I was crashing a car into a wall, again and again. But one doesn’t break down the wall of the mind, one slips through the chinks and comes out the other side.
Mind you, it wasn’t the snap of kenpo punches, it was the whole body of karate, but the body didn’t tense, it just lined up behind the fist.
The idea that Karate, or any martial art, is nothing more than a blast of energy and power and all that…is totally and utterly false.
I lost my headaches, I discovered ways of rolling power through my tan tien and snapping it. It was more shaolin than karate, but it was really just true karate, the karate that the masters of old, who had had more direct connection to shaolin, had practiced.
It was more tai chi chuan than karate, but it was really just true Karate.
It was so many things. It was energy made liquid, energy pulsed, energy gentle…there was so much potential here it is almost overwhelming.
It was more than body…it was an energy body that I lived in. Drop on by Learn Karate Online and sample a free lesson. Sample it carefully, because you’ll notice that I don’t move hard and fast, I move deliberately and with awareness. True Karate, and it is not longer a car crash.
